Kompas.com - 14/09/2011, 12:50 WIB

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono received Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung at Merdeka Palace here on Wednesday.

PM Nguyen Tan Dung’s visit to Indonesia is part of his courtesy call on the Association of Southeast Asian Nations member countries after Dung was re-elected to lead Vietnam. In the meeting, the two leaders discussed bilateral, regional and international issues as common interest of countries.

Vietnam and Indonesia established diplomatic relations at consulate level on Dec. 30, 1955 and at ambassador level on Aug. 15, 1964. Over the years, the two countries’ bilateral relations have been growing well. Two-way trade turnover has increased year after year, with US$ 3.3 billion in 2010 against US$ 364 million in 1995.

Indonesia and Vietnam are members of ASEAN and East Asia Summits will be held in Bali in the end of this year. This year is special since for the first time new members, United State and Russia, will attend the summit.

After receiving PM Dung, in the afternoon the President will receive a courtesy call of Singaporean Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean. Earlier on Tuesday, Teo Chee Hean was received by Vice President Boediono.
