More than 3 Thousand Personnels Join Anti-Terrorism Training

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — The Indonesian National Police and Armed Force will have a join training for counter terrorism vigilance and responsiveness on March 11 and 13, 2010, at a number of strategic locations in Jakarta.

The training will involve 3,559 personnel from the National Police and Armed Force, including Densus 88, detective unit, Samapta, the Strategic Intelligence Agency, Intel Unit Operational Main Command, SAT-81 Gultor for Counter Terrorism, the Jala Mangkara Detachment (Denjaka), and Air Force Anti-Terror Unit Bravo-90 (Denbravo 90).

The training is to anticipate and respond to possible terrorist assaults that might threaten the Republic of Indonesia, and also to anticipate any national or international terrorism threat, including threats on the visit of US President Barack Obama.

National Police Chief Gen. Police Bambang Hendarso Danuri, commencing the training at the National Monument, Jakarta, Thursday, stated that this is to show the government's commitment in dealing with terrorism.

"We all realize that acts of terror in Indonesia or in any other parts of the world not only cost lives, but also cause psychological trauma on the people, and bring negative effects. Therefore, counter-terrorism must be done comprehensively and in an integrated way to protect the people so that casualties and traumatic effects can be prevented."

Also present at the gathering were Commander of the Armed Force Djoko Santoso, the heads of all elements of the Armed Force, high officials of the National Police, Minister for Communication and Information Tifatul Sembiring, and Deputy Governor of Jakarta Prijanto.

On March 11 the personnel will all have a macro training at their respective headquarters. The material for training is for special operations planning and formulating analyses of current threats. On March 13, all personnel will be deployed on the field.

A training to secure the Jakarta Stock Exchange building will be done by the Strategic Reserve Command and Densus 88; securing Borobudur Hotel by Densus 88 and the Jakarta Military Area Command; Soekarno-Hatta airport by SAT-81 Gultor, Special Forces Command, Denbravo 90, and Densus 88. The super tanker on the waters of Thousand Islands will be secured by the Frogman Unit and the National Police; the oil rig on the same waters by Denjaka; and Ancol Mercure Hotel by the Jakarta Military Area Command and the National Police's Gegana unit.

The field training will include techniques of infiltration; reaction, techniques, and tactics for close combat; techniques and tactics for quick take-over; techniques and tactics to release hostages or prisoners; demolition and explosive ordinance disposal techniques; techniques of rescuing, assisting, and evacuating; techniques of exfiltration, crime scene investigation, and Disaster Victim Identification (DVI); and also crisis management analyses and Armed Force/National Police assistance procedures.
